| UP CMCFI Launches “Pay it Forward” To make media education more responsive to country’s need. The UP College of Mass Communication Foundation has launched the “Pay it Forward” campaign designed to make media education more responsive to the needs of today’s society. Essentially, “Pay it Forward” is a sustained, accountable fund-raising campaign wherein the giver pays now for future benefits. Such a method of giving often has a multiplier effect of benefits and very providential consequences. The ultimate objective of UP CMCF’s “Pay it Forward” is to improve the quality of media education, create socially-relevant media programs to counter today’s escapist varieties, and propagate media literacy among different sectors of society. In light of the diminished budget of the University of the Philippines, the UP College of Mass Communication Foundation has felt it necessary to undertake the “Pay It Forward” fund-raising campaign in order to be true to is mission of providing a media education that is relevant to the country’s needs. Funds raised will be primarily used for modernizing and equipping UP CMC with state-of the –art facilities and providing incentives for faculty recruitment, growth and development. Who will “Pay it Forward.” This is is where the UP CMC will call on its most valuable resources: its roster of alumni that are by and large, outstanding in their various field of endeavor, like Cong. Gilbert Remulla, Cong. Lino Cayetano, Jessica Soho, Cito Beltran, Millet Mananquil, Karen Davila, Luchi Cruz, Sari Yap, Monchet Olives and Egay Navalta, to name a few. They have remained true to the practices media integrity taught them by their various communications professors throughout the years. Indeed, some of them attribute their current success to the lessons learned at UP CMC. Now, the UP CMCF will ask them to “Pay it Forward.” And many, like Sen. Loren Legarda, Yoly Villanueva-Ong of Campaigns and Grey, Venus Navalta of McCann-Erickson, Lois Villanueva, Maryo J. delos Reyes, Ina Quiogue, and Avie Perez have even actively helped in the “Pay it Forward” campaign, committing not only their time and considerable resources, but also their personal funds. Ebert Bautista has also exercised his parental rights over pop singer son Christian Bautista, to contribute his talents to UP CMCF. By and large, this is because they are deeply committed to the betterment of media in this country and the role it can do in nation- building. In a society where media practitioners have been faulted for lack or pioneering and innovative research, for fostering escapism and stunted communication creativity, UP CMC stays committed to the task of providing quality education that emphasizes the value a liberated, free-thinking, no boundaries, no limits media creativity. It aims to counter commercialized media programs, and seeks to propagate media literacy among different sectors of society. And this can only be done if it has the financial wherewithal to do so, hence, the call of UP CMC for an awakening among its alumni to “Pay it Forward.” So, if you are a UP CMC or IMC alumni, you still have an “Incomplete.” Now is the time to “Pay it Forward.” Get in touch with ______________, ______________, for completion.
